I cannot say enough good about the "in hospital" training concept conceived by Dr. Brazzell, Peter Brunelli and the Universal group.

The benefit of having one on one training in your own hospital setting is huge. You and your support staff are becoming familiar with your own machine ( and able to create presets if you wish) in your own hospital setting. There is also unlimited ‘probe time’ unlike in most CE/training scenarios. This is also an opportunity to set up your technical support network and telemedicine ( if you are using one of the services) with Dr. Brazzell’s help.

In addition, you are working up your own cases with Dr. Brazzell’s excellent input. The ultrasonography is thus income generating as well as an excellent learning experience. The financial net is even further enhanced in that you are not having to take time from work nor incur traveling expenses to obtain this excellent training.

I investigated the various machines and training programs thoroughly when purchasing my machine. The Universal training model ( and the US machine) seemed to stand head and shoulders above the other options and all my experience since acquiring the machine has very strongly confirmed that sense.

I plan to continue to have Dr. Brazzell visit my hospital to help advance my skills. This will be a major part of my CE in this area.

I highly recommend the utilization of on-site training. Having hands on instruction at our hospital using our own machine is invaluable. Dr Brazzell’s dedication, knowledge and expertise are clearly apparent.  Not only have I gained confidence in ultrasonography, but I feel that his insight and advice has helped us to grow this area within our hospital.  

Prior to this I had some instruction in ultrasound through courses offered at two different veterinary conferences. These courses often cater more to vendors marketing their equipment and are more superficial in nature.  Class size can also limit your amount of hands on training.  I have also had some experience with real time ultrasound, but there is no comparison to having an experienced ultrasonographer like Dr Brazzell right in your clinic. Our clients directly benefit as it is their pets that are expertly evaluated for real concerns for which ultrasound had been recommended.

I've had my share of ultrasound machines and the best, by far, is the PICO Sonace color unit. It is extremely easy-to-use, portable, and has excellent resolution. As far as companies, hands down, Universal Ultrasound is the vendor you should use. Not only is he fair with pricing, he is a true gentleman. Universal provides training by qualified instructors who are actual physicians. You definitely will feel comfortable is all aspects of musculoskeletal sonography, as well as basic vascular screening tests which do pay quite nicely. As far as support, I never had to wait on hold for more than a couple of seconds, and, if they need to look something up for you, they get back to you very quickly.
